We’ve often said that Hex is an old soul. What do we mean by that? Well since he was a very young puppy he has always just had a more calm, sweet and relaxed demeanor in the house. He comes inside, and immediately lays down on his dog bed (or next to his dog bed) and behaves like a good boy. This kind of behavior is much more inline with an old, sugar faced, senior dog, than a young, energetic GSP.
But don’t let his calm house manners fool you. He is no slough in the field! You could say he’s an old soul in the field as well, because he hunts like an experienced veteran, though he has only had one season of wild birds. There are just some dogs who have it. What is “it” you may ask? The natural ability to find birds, to intelligently hunt them and pin them down, to point, back, mark and retrieve to hand. It’s when you have several dogs hunting together, who have seasons of experience under their belt and he is still out finding and outperforming them in the field.
Every day we look at him and say, dang you remind us of your daddy! We love seeing Vex’s temperament and personality shine through in Hex. And like we’ve always said, there is no such things as a perfect dog, and though Vex came pretty darn close, the goal is to always be improving on your genetics and the breed as a whole. We truly hope that Hex is the next best thing and we can’t wait to see just how truly amazing and impressive he turns out!
