Several weeks into owning Chief as a puppy, it was evident he was something special. He was excelling at tasks and introductions you typically wouldn’t start until he was almost twice his age. He is so self-assured and confident, by 12 weeks old it wasn’t uncommon to find him swimming over 100 yards from shore with older dogs. It was evident from these early training sessions he had an immense affinity for water, strong retrieving desire, and was a natural tracker.
While serious in the field, at home Chief is a love bug that warms your heart with his affection and his desire to be a part of the family. His affectionate personality shines through as he likes nothing more than to curl up next to you on the couch or bed when asked. While he is a large and powerful dog, he is a dream when interacting with puppies, carefully playing with them while he enjoys participating in some puppy antics.
His balance of intelligence, drive, confidence, and inherent ability have allowed him to achieve his AKC Master Hunter and NAVHDA Utility Prize 1 titles before the age of 3 and have led to many memories that will last a lifetime. Chief has unbelievable stamina and typically ranges between 60-100 yards, but he will adapt to the cover and terrain. As a testament to his versatility, he begins with early-season teal hunts in September and ends in mid-March on snow geese. On the same day, he will effortlessly transition from sitting in a duck blind in the morning to upland hunting in the afternoon. Whether taking a long cast for a crippled duck in frigid conditions or pinning down a wiley late-season rooster, his blend of instinctive and trained abilities leads to more game in the bag.
Chief’s work ethic, desire, and fun-loving attitude leads to memorable days in the field, whether you are training, testing, or hunting. His enthusiasm and gregarious personality make each hunt that much more enjoyable and rewarding. Even in the toughest, most brutal conditions you can encounter during late-season hunts, the effort and energy Chief puts forth to pursue his passion of hunting will motivate you to keep pushing. Chief is looking to achieve the elusive title of Versatile Champion at the 2023 NAVHDA Invitational.
